Anyway, we started off our week posting about our vibration plate (1 of only 3 on the east coast) and it’s ability to increase peak power output. The study was done on the biceps muscle where a dumbell curl was performed before and after general vibratory stimulus. Peak power was higher in the post stimulus measurements.
Speaking of peak power, check out Mitch Petrus cranking out 45 @ the combine http://blogs.nfl.com/2010/02/26/petrus-shocked-after-record-tying-bench-press/
The next article we looked at came fromADVANCE for physical therapy and rehab medicine, a publication free to licensed therapists. The article stated that by using a therapist who implements three strategies for preventing non-contact ACL injuries, an athlete can stay clear of such affliction. The three strategies were: assessing postural alignment, strengthening the weaknesses that would predispose one to injuy, and neuromuscular training interventions or re-educating the athlete’s movement patterns.
